CAW Events

Even the most diligent student needs a little break from time to time to recover and recharge his or her batteries for their studies. The Club Ausländischer Weihenstephaner offers a varied programme of events both during the lecture period and during the holidays. Whether sports, education, art and culture, or simply socialising, at the CAW, you will find the right event for you!

CAW Regulars' Table

During the lecture period, we hold our CAW regulars' table at the Sammamera in Freising every Wednesday at 8:00 pm. The regulars' table is a meeting place for international students to get to know each other and exchange ideas. Those interested can also take the opportunity to taste the local beer specialities.

Tasting Events

We promote brewing and teaching beverage technology skills outside the university. You don't have to be a brewing student to benefit from this. The CAW experts professionally prepare information about the beverage to be tasted and guide you through the tasting. As a guest, all you have to bring is interest and curiosity. We regularly taste beer, but also wine, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages.

International Movie Nights

The CAW's international movie nights offer the opportunity to fully immerse oneself in the culture of the respective host country. The film screening is preceded by a tasting of drinks typical of the country with a special focus on the beverage-technological background, often accompanied by small appetisers typical of the country. At the screening itself, award-winning films from the host country are shown with the original soundtrack and English subtitles. In addition, there are other dishes typical of the country as well as desserts.

Hiking Trips

A hiking trip combines sport and nature experience. Freising's location makes it an ideal starting point for a variety of hikes, be it to the nearby Alps, along the Isar river or right next door to the Freisinger Moos. As a rule, our hikes are day trips, but sometimes we spend a night in a mountain hut on longer trips.

Company and Factory Tours

How is a particular drink or food actually made? How is a wine barrel or a bottling machine produced? All these questions can best be answered through factory tours. These expert tours – often conducted directly by our alumni – provide participants with exciting insights into the production processes and complement the grey theory from the lecture hall.

Here you can find the current events of the CAW. We are looking forward to your participation!

Gingerbread & Cocoa Beer Tasting
Place: CAW Gardens
DateSunday, 15.10.2023
Time: 02:00 pm

As part of our CAW Beer of the Week, we present international, unusual and special beers on our social media channels that you rarely encounter in everyday life. The tasting of the beers takes place in a small setting with six to eight people under the guidance of an experienced brewing student. The target group is brewing students and beer enthusiasts. After all, an expert report wants to be written about each of the beers. But don't worry: during the joint review and discussion of the beers, we gather enough material about all the sensory impressions the beers have to offer. The supermarkets have been offering gingerbread and Christmas biscuits since the beginning of September. So it's high time to choose the right beers to go with the treats. Join us in tasting gingerbread and cocoa beers as well as the banana split bock of the CAW wheat beer competition 2022.

The participation fee for the tasting is 5 €.  The event has a limited number of places.

Taste around the World – Champagne
Place: BayWa Co-Working-Space, TUM Venture Lab FAB, Maximus-von-Imhof-Forum 2
DateFriday, 27.10.2023
Time: 05:00 pm

The CAW has set itself the task of making all those drinks accessible to Freising (brewing) students that are only dealt with in theory in lectures. At the beginning of the winter semester, we will go to the Champagne to discover the most famous of all sparkling wines with all our senses.
Experience an exciting lecture in which the development from the vine to the wine is explained. Four tasting samples (Brut Réserve, Brut Rosé, Blanc de Blancs, Brut Sous Bois) deepen the theory shown.
Each participant will receive a (German) teaching and tasting booklet donated by the Comité Interprofessionnel du Vin de Champagne. The tasting samples are kindly donated by Champagne Charles Heidsieck and Champagne Billecart-Salmon.

The participation fee for the tasting is 30 € (Member price: 20 €). The event has a limited number of places.

Taste around the World – Belgian Sour Beer
Place: BayWa Co-Working-Space, TUM Venture Lab FAB, Maximus-von-Imhof-Forum 2
DateFriday, 24.11.2023
Time: 05:00 pm

In Pajottenland, southwest of Brussels, there is something very special in the air: Brettanomyces yeasts. In autumn, the brewers open the windows of the brewery and give the yeasts the opportunity to fall into the fresh beer wort. This step is at the beginning of the production of Belgian sour beers. From the basic lambic product, other beers such as gueuze or fruit lambics can be made by aging/blending or adding fruit.
In the course of our lecture, we will take you on a journey through the world of Belgian sour beers and explain the production process. In order to experience the individual products, tasting will not be neglected. Enjoy different fruit lambics and gueuze variations. There will also be selected rarities and monoblends, i.e. gueuze from a single, special barrel.

The participation fee for the tasting is 25 € (Member price: 15 €). The event has a limited number of places.
